This year, I welcomed a new baby into our family and my 3rd grader finally got the little sister he always wanted. Parenting in multiple stages at the same time is a reminder that no matter how much experience we gain, every year brings new joys, new worries, and new opportunities to grow. With my older child, I’m learning how to support his learning in the classroom, build strong partnerships with teachers, and encourage his independence. With my baby, I’m right back to the basics celebrating tiny milestones and all the firsts that make this stage so special. Even with years of parenting under my belt, I never feel like I have it completely locked in. I return to resources, to community, and to guidance that helps me refresh and keep showing up as the expert for my kids.
At GO Public Schools, we know that every year of parenting brings fresh excitement, new worries, and different ways we need to grow. That’s why we’re here with you, every step of the way. Whether you’re navigating the first day of kindergarten, middle school transitions, the ups and downs of high school, or the huge milestone of college drop-off, GO is committed to walking alongside you. We believe families are the most important advocates for children, and we want to make sure you feel equipped, supported, and confident at every stage. You may not always feel like you have all the answers, but you are your child’s most important expert – and we’re here to back you up.

GO Tools and Programs to Strengthen Your Advocacy

We are here to walk alongside you in this work. Right now, we’re offering resources and opportunities to strengthen advocacy and leadership:

  • Family Leadership Program (launches this month): Our six-session virtual series equips families with the skills, confidence, and community to advocate effectively. Whether you’re just starting out or already active in your school district, this program will deepen your impact.
  • Parent’s Guide to Special Education: Learn how special education works in California, what your rights are, and how to partner with your child’s school. The guide offers clear information and watch our webinar for a walkthrough of the guide to help you get the most out of the tools. Also, learn more about our Community-Led Committee, a network of parents/caregivers building community, sharing experiences, and driving change.
  • Parent-Teacher Conference Tools: Prepare for conferences with a step-by-step guide to asking the right questions, understanding your child’s progress, and advocating for the support they need. Catch the webinar here and download our new resource so you can feel confident and prepared to advocate.
  • Coming Soon:
    • October 29: Financial Aid Fundamentals – FAFSA and CADAA Made Clear: This session is purposefully split into two tracks so you get exactly what you need:
      • Families and Students Session: A clear, supportive walkthrough of FAFSA and CADAA basics, designed to answer questions from families in real time.
      • Practitioners Session in Partnership with SoCal CAN: Strategies, resources, and inspired tips for those who support students in completing financial aid applications.

In the South Valley, I’ve met families who thought they were alone in their struggles, only to discover a community of parents advocating for the same things. The relief and empowerment that comes from realizing ‘I am not alone, and together we can make change,’ that’s what this work is all about. When advocates step into that expertise, it not only changes their child’s trajectory, it transforms entire school communities.

As a new school year unfolds, remember that your voice matters. GO Public Schools is here to provide the tools, resources, and community to support you, whether you’re planning for college or preparing for your next parent-teacher conference. By showing up, speaking out, and standing together, families can shape stronger schools and brighter futures for every child. Now is the time to connect, refresh, and step into your power as an advocate.
