As part of our English Learner Campaign, GO is working with parent leaders to better understand how schools support students learning English, and how families can be strong advocates for their children.

This spring, our families participated in a Multilingual Ambassador training through the Central Valley Multilingual Consortium. The training helped families learn more about the consortium’s five policy focus areas, with a deeper look at two key priorities:

  • Making sure classrooms reflect and respect students’ languages and cultures
  • Ensuring teachers and school staff are prepared to meet the needs of multilingual students

Parents had the chance to learn, share their experiences, and connect with other families and educators. The evening sparked excitement and energy. Many families said they got more out of it than they expected and were eager to share what they learned with others. Several parents spoke about how powerful it felt to turn information into action, helping more families across Fresno County understand how to support English learners and make sure schools are doing the same.

At GO, we believe in lifting up strong programs and practices for English learners, and making sure family voices are part of shaping what happens in our schools. This training was one more step in that journey.
