The Power of Resilience: GO Public Schools at the African American Student Leadership Conference

This month, GO Public Schools attended the 18th Annual African American Student Leadership Conference, hosted by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools on February 4th. With the theme “The Power of Resilience,” the event celebrated the strength, brilliance, and perseverance of Black students as they navigate systemic challenges and work toward success. This event reflected the opportunity to build resilience with the community.
Resilience is at the heart of the Black experience—overcoming barriers, excelling in academics, and shaping a brighter future. Witnessing young Black intellectuals connect and uplift one another underscored the power of early relationship-building across districts. Stronger networks mean stronger support systems, ensuring students have the confidence and resources to thrive.
The students had the opportunity to be inspired by Robert Golden, former NFL player and founder and CEO of Golden Charter Academy. Golden shared his journey from Fresno to the NFL and back—investing in environmental education and youth leadership. His story reinforced the importance of giving back, dreaming big, and using success, excellence and discipline to uplift others.
With equity and community as a few of GO’s core values, we recognize the importance of fostering spaces where diverse perspectives, leadership, and collective effort drive meaningful change. Community strengthens resilience, builds networks of support, and ensures every student has the resources to thrive. Equity demands that we confront systemic challenges and create just opportunities for all. Thank you to the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools for hosting such a powerful event—we look forward to continuing to support and celebrate the next generation of leaders!
