We’re thrilled to announce the addition of the LCFF Guide to our growing School Finance Resource Library! Following our LCAP Explainer, this new guide breaks down California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which transformed how schools are funded by giving districts greater flexibility in spending and directing more resources toward students with higher needs.

The LCFF Guide explains how LEAs receive funding through a mix of base, supplemental, and concentration grants — and how families and community members can help ensure these funds make a real impact.

With local control comes the need for accountability. Our LCFF Guide provides practical steps for families to participate in the LCAP process, join advisory committees, and advocate for equitable funding in their schools.

Curious about how you can get involved? The guide offers ways to monitor LCFF spending in your district through tools like the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), community engagement events, and advisory committees. When families and community members stay informed and engaged, they can help ensure that funds reach those who need them most.Check out our LCFF Guide to learn how California’s school funding works and how you can play an active role in it!
