Cynthia A. Sterling-President, BWOPA Fresno/SJV Chapter

  1. What gives you excitement?
    • Our community: employed, access to health options, educational goals being met
  2. What keeps you up at night?
    • Homelessness, poor prenatal care, unemployment, especially in the Black Community, life’s disparities with the underserved, people of color.
  3. What gives you hope?
    • The unification of communities/people of color able to come together and talk about what can be done collectively to bridge the gap of disparities plaguing our lives.
  4. If you could wave your magic wand, what is the first thing you would change or add?
    • I would help the homeless and hungry and those in need of medical/educational attention 1st.
  5. More about Cynthia’s journey
    • Born and raised in Fresno County I have seen the doors open to political, educational, business, life’s opportunities and career advancement for some people of color while others never left the neighborhood they grew up in; being one of the fortunate whose family was a mainstay in the business world, our fault was not getting past interpersonal relationships to be able to get to the next level that would have been a benefit to family & community because of family’s politics. Today, after a major tragedy and business discourse, I realize it is as important to learn from experience(s) in the moment, and move forward with a heightened awareness of values and truths learned and continue to step into the future. Never wallow in a past moment of any success or failure, but learn from the event/experience and make a teachable moment for one’s future, the community where you are. Life is very fleeting and not guaranteed that there will be a tomorrow; I do not regret my choices, I respect that I have recognized in time what it takes to help someone else along the way. I receive my Blessings and share with those I feel appreciate and want; note, I am not perfect, but I have been blessed to still have the good consciousness to make good choices.
