In today’s tech-driven world, many parents struggle to keep pace with rapidly evolving technology, while their children grow up immersed in smartphones, social media, and online platforms. This digital literacy gap can complicate parenting, making it harder to set boundaries, manage screen time, and protect children from online risks like cyberbullying. For parents who didn’t grow up with the internet, staying informed about new apps, trends, and potential dangers can feel overwhelming.
At GO, we recognize these challenges. That’s why our Digital Literacy sessions provide tools to help parents become more confident with technology. For some families, this is their first exposure to the range of technology interfaces they will navigate throughout a week, month, or year. For others, we are helping them refine advanced skills to improve daily efficiency and advocacy.
Since not all skills can be mastered in one session, we offer a series of workshops that strengthen skills and strategies in different contexts. Our hope is that through repeated learning opportunities, families will be able to gradually incorporate technology skills into their daily lives.
Below is a short list of the various core tech skills covered in each session offered during the 2024 calendar year:
- Types of Technology
- How to Access the Internet
- How to Navigate Zoom on an Android/Apple
- How to Navigate Zoom on a Computer
- How to Download/Access Google Applications
- Introduction to Google Suite
- Navigating School Site Apps and Cyber Security
