Thank you to the hundreds of people who came out to join us this last Saturday at Chukchansi Park for our Choosing Our Future report release party. The weather cleared up with just a few hours to spare, leaving lots of time for bounce houses, face painting, games, door prizes, and, of course, a chance to share our report about the need to transform schools in Fresno.
For any of you who weren’t able to join us, have no fear – we have lots of ways for you to review the full report. You can learn more about the report and key findings at our new Choosing Our Future website, by downloading the report directly or by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your mailing address so we can send you a hard copy of the full report.
As we say in our report: “A bold vision – and the stark reality of how students are doing today and how the world of tomorrow is changing – call for courageous action.” After much research and feedback from educators and community members, our report includes three courageous policy recommendations for Fresno Unified:
- Redefine what success looks like in the 21st century and commit to every child graduating prepared to succeed.
- Empower students and educators with individualized data to ensure every child is making adequate annual progress toward graduating prepared to succeed.
- Create an Innovation Zone to design and support transformational school models.
We will ask the Board of Education to adopt the findings of this report – including these three recommendations – at the next school board meeting on May 9th.
We know that our work to transform learning will take continued action and diligence from all of us heading up to May 9th and beyond. Many of you have asked since Saturday how we can ensure this vision becomes a reality. The most impactful steps are below.
Show Your Support
When we first began this process, we set a goal of having 250 people signed on in support of Choosing Our Future before we brought it to the Board of Education. With more than 450 community members signed on as of today, we can certainly show broad support from across the city.
But we don’t want to stop here. Can you help us get 1,000 Fresnans to sign on in support of Choosing Our Future? If you haven’t already, please sign on to Choosing Our Future. If you have already signed on, send the link to a few friends.
Every additional signature helps convince board members of the broad support for our bold vision and our transformative policy recommendations and makes it more likely that they support this work. More importantly, it ensures that we are building a bigger and bigger coalition who is ready to stay engaged and support this work over the long haul.
GO Fresno needs financial support to keep doing this work of organizing, engaging, informing and advocating for big change. We rely on individual donors and foundations to support all of our work, and it is always hard to ask hard-working people to part with their dollars, but we aren’t able to do this work without your support. If you’re able to, please consider supporting our continued work.
Provide a one time donation, making sure to identify GO Fresno under “Gift Purpose.”
Any donation amount helps.
